Taj Mahal the wonderful white marble tomb standing on right bank of river Yamuna in Agra, is still under threat even after the 'Taj Corridor Scam' is under preview of Supreme Court of India. Taj Mahal which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, may not exist as such in future as it is constantly under threat from some powerful and mighty people. Even ASI i.e Archaeological Survey of India which is primarily responsible for preservation & maintenance of Taj Mahal is also clueless and quiet.
In India might is always right, as India is a democratic country and this is true at least for the area surrounding the Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal is a major attraction for tourists along with an object of interest for many commercial projects. Today these commercial interests are threating the very existence of Taj Mahal in Agra. Area surrounding Taj Mahal and Agra Fort have a high commercial value, this in turn has a potential to close ears and eyes of all those who are supposed to protect interest of this historical building.
In last few years Taj Corridor Scam attracted attention from media and was in news for quiet some time. This media attention was able to provide a temporary relief but now things have again started taking shape. Only difference is that this time there is no fuss. Now, its a peaceful process.
Whether its the case of Taj Mahal or some thing else. In India whenever there is a fuss and a lot of media attention on a controversy some basic things remain integral. Normally, reports reach media only when one or more of the participants or interested participants aren't satisfied with there share.
This time it seems things have been well settled as now there is a Water Tank in the background of the Taj Mahal and our curious tourist visiting Taj Mahal often wonder whether this is also a part of the historical monument that was built under the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Taj the finest example of Mughal Architecture.
Now, these historical monuments and other issues of social interest can only be protected by awareness of a common man. At least in India common man has this privilege to ultimately decide things because India is a democracy and common has the mandate to dispose or approve. All these powerful and mighty people have to pass a survival test every five years conducted by the citizens and for the citizens of India.
So, even Taj Mahal isn't under threat but those who are persistently trying to threat the existence of Taj Mahal in Agra can come under threat for there survival from citizens of India. Only time will tell.
