Symbol for Indian Rupee

Until now, Indian rupee didn't had any graphical symbol like US Dollar, Euro, Yen but now Indian currency will have its own identity. The symbol which was designed by D Udaya Kumar was cleared by cabinet on Thursday July 15 2010.

Indian Government had announced a contest for design of currency symbol in March 2010.
This symbol resembles both Devanagri letter '' and Roman letter 'R', which really good as for those Indians who can only read and write in Devanagri lipi, this symbol is really very relevant as it is for the global community where Roman character set is used.

Today most of the Indian publications are proudly using this symbol for Indian Rupee in newspapers, magazines, office correspondence and even in printed documents.
