Belongings of Mahatma Gandhi in US Auction
Last week the news of Mahatma Gandhi's belonging in auction was hot. There was a lot of pressure on government from different quarters to stop the deal. Although all last minute attempts of the Indian government failed to stop the auction. There was also a legal attempt to cancel the auction. A Ahmedabad based approached Delhi high court seeking stay on the auction. An interim stay was also issued by Delhi High Court. VJ Mallaya win the bid for Mahatma Gandhi's five item for 1.8 Million Dollars. He said that he did this for his country and plans to return them to Indian Government.Preventive Measures for Future Auctions/Sale
Now Indian Government is planning to prepare a legislation which will prevent future auctions of Mahatma Gandhi. Now, again Indian Government is planning to pass a legislation with limited vision, they should instead plan a legislation which will prevent auction of any item which belong to Indian heritage. Culture Minister Ambika Soni on behalf of Indian Government said that VJ Mallaya bought the items in conjunction with the government and they were in touch with his representative. Read details at We procured Gandhi items through Mallya.
